The experience

Why golf in Morocco

Golf in Morocco carries a royal story. King Hassan II was a passionate golfer, and in 1971 he opened Royal Golf Dar Es Salam in Rabat: 45 holes in a cork oak forest, designed by Robert Trent Jones.

The same year he created the Trophée Hassan II. Champions such as Billy Casper, Lee Trevino, Payne Stewart, Colin Montgomerie, Pádraig Harrington and Ernie Els have lifted it, and it still brings world golf to Rabat.

Today the courses run from the Atlantic to the foot of the Atlas: ocean holes at Mazagan and Taghazout Bay, palm groves in Marrakech, and in winter, snow on the mountains behind the greens.

On your journey, a round is part of the day, not the whole day: a transfer from your hotel, a tee time already booked, lunch at the clubhouse, while non-players explore the medina or the coast.

A royal tradition. Your tee time.

How a round works

What a golf day usually looks like on Moroccan courses. Details vary by club.

01Tee time

Booked in advance, usually in the morning, when the light is soft and the heat is low.

02At the club

Most clubs ask for golf attire: a collared shirt and tailored shorts or trousers. Some may ask for a handicap certificate.

03On the course

Caddies are common in Morocco, and buggies are recommended in the heat. Caddies, buggies and club hire are optional extras, paid on top.

04After the round

Lunch at the clubhouse, then the afternoon is free for the medina, the coast or the spa.

Good to know

Do I need to bring my own clubs?

No. We can arrange rental clubs at the course. If you prefer your own, check your airline’s sports-equipment rules before you travel.

Which level of golfer is it suitable for?

All levels. Tell us your experience and we choose courses and tee times to match. Some courses may ask for a handicap certificate; we tell you in advance.

What is included, and what can we add?

Every round listed in your itinerary is included, with a clubhouse lunch on golf days (other meals are paid separately). Caddies, buggies and club hire are optional extras, paid on top.

What should I wear?

Golf attire: a collared shirt, tailored shorts or trousers and golf shoes. Bring a hat and sunscreen.

When is the best time to play?

All year on the coast. Inland, in Marrakech, October to April is the most pleasant; in summer we book early tee times to avoid the heat.

General information. Details vary with the place, the season and the provider, and your trip confirms what is included.
