Royal Golf Dar Es Salam

A royal club in a cork oak forest, home of the Trophée Hassan II.

The story

In the late 1960s, King Hassan II, a passionate golfer, asked Robert Trent Jones to build a club worthy of the capital. Royal Golf Dar Es Salam, the “House of Peace”, opened in 1971: 45 holes across 440 hectares of cork oak forest on the edge of Rabat.

The same year the King created the Trophée Hassan II. Billy Casper, Lee Trevino, Payne Stewart, Vijay Singh and Ernie Els are among its champions. Today it is played on the PGA Tour Champions, alongside the Lalla Meryem Cup for women.

In 2017 and 2018 the Red course was restored by James Duncan, who rebuilt the greens from Jones’s original plans, found in the archives of Cornell University. It is ranked No. 1 in Morocco by Top100GolfCourses.
