Marrakech
Royal Golf Marrakech
One of Morocco’s oldest clubs, where Churchill played.
The story
Royal Golf Marrakech dates from 1927, when the Pacha of Marrakech played its first four holes. Gustave Golias completed the first nine the following year, and in 1933 Arnaud Massy, the French winner of the 1907 Open, remodelled the course.
Lloyd George, Winston Churchill and Dwight Eisenhower played here, and it was a favourite of King Hassan II, who named one of its par 3s after Brigitte Bardot. Mature trees, planted from the 1920s by Gustave Golias, line the fairways.
A second, nine-hole course, the Ménara, opened in 2008, and every bunker was renovated in 2020 and 2021. It is one of the most historic rounds in the country.
